Getting started

How do I start?

Tap + in the project browser (⌘N on Mac), give your project a name, pick Text, Screenplay or Game script and a language. To learn by doing, choose Learn by writing your first screenplay — a coach walks you through a first scene. The Samples menu opens a finished screenplay and game to explore.

What do the keys do?

On iPhone and iPad, these keys are in the bar above the keyboard. The full syntax is in … ▸ Syntax Guide.

Buying Kino

One purchase on the App Store covers iPhone, iPad and Mac — install it on each with the same Apple Account. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple: to ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.

Sync and files

How do I get my projects on all my devices?

Keep them in iCloud Drive ▸ Kino (the default for new projects) and sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on. They open on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Themes, goals and statistics sync too (Settings ▸ iCloud).

“Edited on two devices” — what now?

If a project changed on two devices before they could sync, Kino asks which version to keep. On Mac you can also keep both.

What’s in a .kino file?

A package with your project (project.json), a plain-text Fountain copy of the script (script.fountain) and the Bible’s pictures. Your words are never locked in.

Exporting

Use Export (title menu on iPhone/iPad, share button on Mac): PDF screenplay (US Letter or A4, set in Project Settings), Fountain, Markdown outline, and for game scripts Ink (Unity), dialogue JSON and the Godot runner script.

Assistance
